...iguassa falls rules all that can see her.
today, after a very restful slumber, we rose just in time to do one of the most thrilling things ever. we took the opportunity to fly high over the falls. high enough to view them from all sides--paraguay, brazil and argentina.
at first, our hope to take the helicopter seemed doomed. the hotel travel agency told us that rain was expected and as such, the helicopter would surely stay on the ground this day. as the single, solitary helicopter operator in the iguassu national forest, we would have no options should this weather forecast be accurate. as i write this note, the rain still has not arrived. it is 6:20pm on friday. thank goodness my foolishness prevailed and we went forward.
when we arrived to the helicopter launch area, there was a substantial group that had just arrived. again, it made us a little concerned that we would not beat the predicted rain. this was 11am. but, the operator noticed that we were just two people. immediately, the question: are we having fun yet is put to rest. hellz yeah, we're having fun!
better than disneyland any day of any week. promise. if you get the chance to come here someday, don´t hesitate to take the helicopter for one of the most exciting experiences ever. totally safe and totally awesome awesomeness. and i for one, did not need or want the ear plugs. i wanted to soak in every single sensory element available.
later in the day, we ventured down the way from the hotel to the elevators and pathways at the falls. this made our desire to view them completely possible and much more practical on so many levels. the access to observe and photograph the falls from this point was excellent. and worlds better than trying to walk from the hotel to this location. the heat and humidity truly do not allow babies like me to be as adventurous as we might otherwise be, if not for that particular obstacle.
i don´t know what it is that makes me so unable to tolerate extreme heat and humidity. suffice to say, i wish it were not this way.
tomorrow we return to buenos aires. we will be there for the night and then, board our cruise ship to find our way to the penguins!
